Douglas Brothers

Douglas E. ”Doug” Brothers, 52, a longtime resident of Auburn passed away on Thursday, August 8, 2013 surrounded by his family after a short battle with inoperable brain cancer.

He leaves his wife and best friend, Breyn J. (Benoit) Brothers, whom were married for nine years and spent every moment together. His three children, Matthew D. Brothers and fiancé, Lauren Sibley, Michael C. Brothers and Symantha Brothers of Auburn, all whom he adored. Douglas also leaves behind his parents, Edward and Jean (Marvin) Brothers of Shrewsbury; two sisters who he loved to tease, Linda J. Mahlert and her husband, Gordon, and Deborah L. Mahlert and her husband, Mark all of Auburn, nieces and nephews, Stacie Cone, Daniel Fitts, Andrew Mahlert and David Mahlert along with many others.

Doug owned and operated Brothers Security Systems for over 20 years. He took pride in his work and spent countless hours making sure his customers were always happy.

Douglas loved spending time with his entire family, from going as far as Maine to Florida to visit them. He enjoyed yearly camping trips, bowling, playing cards, and going for walks to enjoy the fresh air. If Doug was not home, you would most likely find him on a local soccer field. He was an avid Auburn soccer coach, where he coached three teams at times, expanding his coaching career to over 18 years. Doug was an inspiration to many coaches, and touched many of the player’s lives.

Doug had a great sense of humor and was a character even while he was sick he always had everyone laughing to lighten the situation. He spent the end of his life making sure he took care of everyone, because that was just the type of person he was.

Doug’s family will miss him terribly, but his legacy of caring, devotion and love will live on in all of them.

Relatives and friends are invited to visit with them on Tuesday, August 13, 2013 from 4-8 PM in the Britton-Wallace Funeral Home, 91 Central Street, Auburn. His funeral will be celebrated on Wednesday, August 14, 2013 at 11 AM in the First Congregational Church, 128 Central St. Auburn. Burial will follow in Hillside Cemetery, Auburn. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to The Douglas E. Brothers Scholarship Fund, c/o TD Bank, 614 Southbridge St., Auburn, MA 01501.
