Ralph M. Warren, Jr., 87, died early Sunday morning, August 18, 2013 at the Southbridge Rehabilitation and Health Care Center. He was a resident of Sturbridge for the last few years and a long-time resident of Auburn.
Ralph was born in Worcester, son of the late Ralph and Esther Warren on June 29, 1926. He graduated from Commerce High School in Worcester. Ralph worked for many years at Standard Foundry in Worcester before realizing his dream of owning a grocery store. He owned and operated Brodeur’s Market on Burncoat St. and later Anderson and Sundquist on Greenwood St., both in Worcester.
Ralph married Lois Russell in 1950. They were married for 63 years. He is survived by Lois, two children and three grandchildren: son, Barry and his wife Valerie and their daughter Amy; daughter Melodie and her husband Jeff Hanks and their sons Jonathan and Christopher. Ralph’s siblings, two brothers Stanley and Alton Warren and two sisters, Audrey Hagberg and Barbara Shonbeck predeceased him.
Ralph loved to sing and was a tenor soloist in area churches. He directed the choir at Millbury Federated Church and later at First Congregational Church in Auburn which he directed for 22 years. He also directed the Grotto Glee Club and other area choruses. He was a member of First Congregational Church in Auburn and attended Charlton Baptist Church the last few years.
Relatives and friends are invited to visit with the Warren family on Wednesday, August 21st from 4-7 PM in the Britton-Wallace Funeral Home, 91 Central Street, Auburn. A private graveside service will be held on Thursday in hillside Cemetery, Auburn. A memorial service celebrating Ralph’s life will be held on Sunday, August 25th at 3 PM in the Charlton Baptist Church, 50 Hammond hill Road, Charlton. Flowers may be sent or memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, 480 Pleasant Street, Watertown, MA 02472
