SHREWSBURY-CW4 (Ret) Robert J. Micket, 66, passed away at home surrounded by his family on September 21, 2013, after a short battle with esophageal cancer.
He is survived by his loving wife of 43 years, Deborah A. (Coomey) Micket; his adored daughters, Katrina Coomey Breen of Shrewsbury, and Timarie Alix Malo, wife of Raymond Malo, of Fairhaven, his three cherished grandsons, Deron and Drew Breen and Forrest Malo, and his two cherished granddaughters, Mackenzie Breen and Charlee Malo. He also leaves his sister Sandra Carlson, brothers-in- law John Coomey and Dana Coomey, sister-in-law Darlene Saffran, several nieces and nephews and a host of loyal friends.
Bob was born in Springfield, Massachusetts, to the late Frank and Anne Micket. He graduated from Shrewsbury High School in 1964.
Bob was the “go to guy” for family and neighbors when it came to tools…If you needed something fixed he could either give you the right tool or use his vast skills to do it for you. He was always there with a big smile and that handle bar mustache to lend a helping hand. He will be remembered for his happy spirit, his chuckle at a good joke and enjoying life “his way.”
Bob was employed as the Anti-Terrorism Force Protection Program Coordinator for Homeland Security, a job he became very passionate about. Prior to this position, he was a Project Manager at the National Guard Bureau in Arlington, Virginia. He also worked as Designer / Estimator for several local construction companies.
He proudly served our nation in the Army National Guard for 38 years retiring in 2009. During his prestigious military career, he was instrumental in creating the Warrant Officer Candidate School in Massachusetts. He was deployed to Fort Bragg, North Carolina, during Operation Enduring Freedom.
Bob had many hobbies including target shooting and skiing. He was a very active member of the Worcester Pistol and Rifle Club where he served as the Vice President and as an Instructor. He was an avid ski racer and was very proud of the many years he volunteered as an instructor for the Special Olympics and Disabled Ski Team at Wachusett Mountain.
His family would like to thank the family of the organ donor whose lung Bob received on November 5, 2009, which gave him the opportunity to travel and spend time with his family and see his grandchildren participate in their many activities which gave him great joy. They also wish to thank the very dedicated and caring staff of the Lung Transplant Team at Brigham and Women’s Hospital, especially Dr. Phillip C. Camp, Bob’s surgeon and friend.
Friends and family are asked to join Bob’s family on Tuesday, September 24, from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Britton-Shrewsbury Funeral Home, 648 Main Street, Shrewsbury. His funeral will be held Wednesday, September 25 with a Mass of Christian Burial celebrated at 10 a.m., in St. Anne’s Church, 130 Boston Turnpike, Shrewsbury. Burial with Military Honors will be in National Cemetery in Bourne at the convenience of the family.
The Micket Family respectfully requests that flowers be omitted. Bob requested that memorial donations be made to the Lung Transplant Unit c/o Dr. Phillip Camp, Brigham and Women’s Hospital, 75
Francis Street, Boston, Massachusetts 02115. The family requests that everyone register at donatelifenewengland.org to give the gift of life that Bob was so fortunate to receive.
