AUBURN- Mary Beth (Conroy) Mannila, 61, passed away at her home surrounded by her loving family on Sunday, April 28, 2013 after a courageous battle with cancer. Mary Beth was born June 4, 1951 to the late Thomas E. Conroy, Sr. and Josephine M. (Dubsky) Conroy of Auburn. Beth, as she liked to be called, leaves behind her husband of forty-one years, Philip E. Mannila, two children who were her pride and joy, son Eric P. Mannila and his fiancée Bonnie M. Vousboukis of North 0xford, and her daughter Lauren E. Mannila of Auburn, two brothers Thomas E. Conroy, Jr. of Worcester and Daniel J. Conroy of St. Louis, MO, her grandson Jacob M. Bolton, who held a special place in her heart, and many loving uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends. She was educated in the Auburn School System through elementary school and graduated from the former Marian Central Catholic High School in Worcester in 1969. In addition, she attended Quinsigamond Community College. Beth was a loving stay-at-home mom in the early years of her marriage. While her children were younger, she enjoyed being a den mother with the Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts of America. Beth actively supported her children’s participation in Auburn sports which included soccer, basketball, football and baseball. She was a devoted Red Sox and NE Patriots fan and loved working in her flower and vegetable gardens. The family enjoyed making new friends on their many camping trips throughout the New England area. In later years, they would spend time at the beaches of Maine and Misquamicut, RI. Beth worked as an employee for the U.S. Postal Service for many years in Auburn, Worcester and Springfield, MA. She was the window clerk at the postal contract station located at the College of the Holy Cross. Beth always considered herself to be a surrogate mother to incoming freshmen as they made their adjustment to college life. She will be dearly missed by the students and staff of the College of the Holy Cross. Beth retired from The College of The Holy Cross after twenty years of service in 2010. Visiting hours will be held on Tuesday, April 30, 2013 from 4-7 PM in the Britton- Wallace Funeral Home, 91 Central Street, Auburn. Beth’s funeral will be held on Wednesday, May 1, 2013 from the Britton-Wallace Funeral Home with a funeral Mass celebrating Beth’s life at 10 AM in North American Martyrs Church, 8 Wyoma Drive, Auburn, MA. Burial will follow at Hillside Cemetery, Auburn. The family extends their sincere appreciation to the Jewish Healthcare Hospice for their compassionate care, consideration, and understanding.
