On August 13,2013, our Blessed God received into His kingdom his disciple Henry “Hank” Joseph Camosse Sr. Henry was known to anyone who met him as a truly compassionate and generous person, who knew no limits when It came to helping others.
He was born November 2, 1930 to Henry and Grace (Quatela) Camosse in Worcester MA. He was predeceased by his first wife Joanne (Siemiatoski) in 1976 and by his second wife Marlene (Dascher) in 2000, by his parents, and his sisters, Mafalda Tomaiolo and Gilda Tighe.
He will be forever missed by the loving family leaves behind. His children; Henry Camosse and his wife Pamela of Charlton, MA, Judith Kozlowski of Sarasota, Ft, Donna and Joe Szynal of Temecula, CA, David Camosse and his wife Sharon of Auburn, MA, Charles Camosse and his wife Lisa of Worcester, MA, and Craig Camosse and his wife Melissa of Leicester, MA. He also leaves behind 15 grandchildren: Henry III, Christopher, and Francis Camosse, Jan, Michael, Jamie, and Glna Jirout, Carmin, Joey and Jesse Szynal, Stephanie and Sage Camosse, Christopher Sargent, Crystal Camosse-Dwyer and Jenna Howarth, He had three great-grandchildren, Tyson Szynal, and Riley and Scarlet Beaver, along with nephews Frank Tomaiolo and his wife Gloria of Leicester, MA, and their children Angela, Thersa, and Michael, and Harold Hakala and his wife Marsha of Boston, MA. He also leaves his stepchildren Loree and Rick Allen of Bethesda, MD, and their children Christopher, Michael, and Brandon, and Kathleen Fowler of Missoula, MT, and her children Erin and Kaitlin, and Daniel Casey of San Diego CA.
He was raised in Auburn, MA, and attended Worcester Academy before entering Worcester Polytechnic Institute. He studied Civil Engineering, graduating with his degree in 1953. While there, he joined Theta Kappa Phi fraternity. After that, he served in the United States Army and was stationed in Fort Benning, GA.
Upon receiving an Honorable Discharge from the army, he moved to Auburn, MA, with his wife Joanne and new family, and joined his father at Henry Camosse & Son, Inc., their concrete block manufacturing business in Worcester. He would often comment in later years that his father was one of the toughest bosses he ever had. Upon his father’s retirement in 1964, he guided the company through the next thirty years, making it one of the largest masonry yards in Massachusetts.
During this time, he became very involved in activities both in and out of the industry. He served on several boards in the town of Auburn, including the Board of Selectmen. He was a 3rd degree Knight in Auburn Council 4158, and was involved in many of their activities, and it was here that, at Joanne’s prodding, he picked up the game of golf, for which he had a passion for the rest of his life. He served on the Board of Directors of both the New England and National Concrete Masonry Associations and served on many of their committees and tasks groups.
He was a founding member of the Southgate at Shrewsbury Retirement community, as well as the Commerce Insurance Company, serving on both their Boards for many years. He served on many other civic and charitable boards throughout his life.
He retired in 1994, moving to Florida permanently, and found a passion for travel when he bought his first RV. Every summer for the next eighteen years, he would load up the RV in May and depart on around the country sojourns, visiting all of the sights he hadn’t seen in previous trips, winding up back in Florida in early September.
He continually demonstrated his exuberance for living in such ways as buying a Harley for himself on his seventy-third birthday, golfing every chance he got, and traveling around the country to make sure he never missed a family event; whether it was a wedding, a graduation, a first communion, or a dance recital. One of his favorite activities was planning the bi-annual family trips where he would gather all of his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, and take them on cruises and vacations. He would tell you that being surrounded by his family on these special weeks were some of the happiest moments of his life.
The contributions of his time, talent and treasure to causes that were important to him are too numerous to mention, and in most cases were made without need of notice or fanfare. The family asks that flowers for his service be omitted and that instead you honor Henry’s charitable nature by. contributing to the charity of your choice, one that you know will make the biggest impact on the lives of those they serve. It was what Henry would have done.
Relatives and friends are invited to visit with the Camosse family on Thursday, August 22nd from 4-8 PM in the Britton-Wallace Funeral Home, 91 Central Street, Auburn. His funeral will be held on Friday, August 23rd from the funeral home with a Mass of Christian Burial celebrated at 10 AM in Saint Joseph’s Church, 189 Oxford Street North, Auburn. Following cremation, burial in Hillside Cemetery will be private.
