Raymond LaPlante

AUBURN-Raymond H. “Big Daddy” LaPlante, 85, of Auburn died Monday in the Life Care Center, with his family at his side. He is survived by his two sons; Mark E. LaPlante of Auburn, Gary R. LaPlante of Southbridge, and a daughter Nancy Custard of Conway, SC, 4 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren, and a companion Ann Mitchell, of N. Oxford. He was born at the family home in Oxford; Ray was the son of the late Noe and Rose (Huard) LaPlante, he was predeceased by his brothers; Noe “Gus” LaPlante, Wilfred “Fritz” LaPlante, and Lawrence “Smokey” LaPlante, and two sisters; Ora Boutillette, and Rita Conroy. Ray was a heavy equipment operator, for many years he owned and operated his own business. He had previously worked for the Town of Auburn, and retired from Quinsigamond College. Mr. LaPlante was a member of the Auburn Elks, the Auburn Sportsman’s Club, the 200 Sportsman’s Club and a long time member of the Worcester County Deputy Sherriff’s Association. Ray was a member of the National Guard where he served as a combat instructor. Relatives and friends are invited to attend calling hours from 2-5 Sunday February, 23 in the Britton-Wallace Funeral Home, 91 Central St. Auburn. Ray’s funeral will be held Monday, February 24th from the funeral home with a Mass celebrated at 10 AM in St. Joseph’s Church, 189 Oxford Street, North in Auburn. Burial will be held privately. In lieu of flowers please make donations in Ray’s name to the Auburn Elk’s Scholarship Fund.
