Carl A. Hagberg, 88 years old, died peacefully on February 25, 2014 in Worcester, MA. He was born on February 15, 1926, son of Isaac and Elizabeth (Lindgren) Hagberg. He is predeceased by his brother Nils Hagberg and his sister Anna Johanson. An Auburn resident for most of his life, Carl was married to his beloved wife Shirley (Wilson) Hagberg for 67 years. Carl leaves a large, loving family including his wife, his son Richard and wife Debra of Auburn and their 2 daughters Alexis and Alana with whom he lived, daughter Judy and husband George Sherry of Maine and their 5 children, daughter Lisa Brooks of Auburn and her 2 children, and son Carl Hagberg Jr. of Worcester and his 2 sons. In addition to his beloved grandchildren, Carl leaves 17 great-grandchildren, 3 nieces, 1 nephew and his dog Flicka. Carl graduated from Auburn High as a star athlete and Auburn High Hall of Fame inductee. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy serving in WWII. He worked at Norton Company in Worcester for several years and later worked at and owned H.C. Hook Company, Auburn, until his retirement. Carl was an avid sports fan following both professional and local sports teams. He was a longtime member of the Scandinavian Athletic Club in Shrewsbury, serving as board member for many years. Besides a good round of golf, Carl enjoyed yearly trips to Florida, fishing, gardening, and woodworking in his free time. The family would like to express their gratitude to all of their friends for their support and condolences during this time. They would especially like to thank Dr. Shenbagaon Dewar, Pat Lazarak, and all of the nurses and staff at Summit Elder Care on Grafton Street, Worcester for their kindness and superb care during Carl’s illness. The family would also like to thank the staff at the Lutheran Healthcare Center of Worcester for their warmth and compassion in the recent weeks.
